Hillcats End Season With Loss to Chaps, 1-0
Men's soccer wrapped up season at SAC TournamentLUBBOCK,
Texas- The Rogers State men’s soccer team’s season came to
an end in the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the
Hillcats fell 1-0 to Lubbock Christian on Monday afternoon in Lubbock.
Adam
Goodnight broke the scoreless tie with the game-winning goal in the 76th
minute of play. It all started when Stuart Cole won the ball and chipped it to
Pernell Nembila who slotted the ball behind the defense to Goodnight who was
left one on one with the goalkeeper. He fired the ball towards the far post
beyond the reach of RSU keeper, Jeremy Swift.
The
Hillcats controlled the offensive half, out-shooting LCU 23-18 while putting
six shots on frame. RSU kept the Chaps goalkeeper busy throughout the game as
Hunter Ganze made several diving saves. However, the Hillcats could not
find the back of the net.
With
time running down the Hillcats got one final good opportunity in the 81st
minute however, freshman Mohammed Shaban’s shot was off the mark. From there
the Chaps ran down the clock to secure the win.
Jeremy
Swift, reigning SAC Defensive Player of the Week, registered the loss in goal
for the Hillcats as he made four saves and allowed one goal. Ganze earned the
win with a six-save shutout.
The
Hillcats end the season with a record of 11-8-1, 5-4-1 in conference play. Six
senior played their final game in Hillcat red and blue: Marko Bukva, Ryan Coffman, Griffin Kane, T.J. Martin, Henrique Sousa, and Chase Walker.
