OKLAHOMA CITY- Despite the wishes of the Rogers State men’s golf team for a day two of the Central Oklahoma Invitational, Mother Nature had a different plan. Play was called Tuesday due to rainy weather at Gaillardia Country Club resulting in a 15th place finish for the Hillcats.

RSU posted a 632 team card after an opening round 323 the Cats improved for a round two 309 on Monday putting the Cats at 15th two strokes behind NCAA Division II Dallas Baptist. The 17 team field was crowded with 15 NCAA Division II teams.

Senior Bo Sarratt led all Hillcat golfers as the Arkansas native followed a first round 79 by penciling a five-over-par 77. The par 72, 7,091 yard course proved challenging for RSU as all five golfers posted at least one score in the 80s. Sarratt finished tied for 39th place.

Tanner Owens tallied a RSU opening round best of 77 but struggled in the second round with an 82 for a two-round, tournament total of 159 and tied for 58th. Teammate Mariano Newton carded an 85 in the opening round but posted a Hillcat best 74 later in the day Monday to tie Owens for 58th.

Josh Bernard tied for 70th after rounds of 84 and 77 for a tournament card of 161. Rounding out the Cat performers was Bradley Phelps with a tournament total of 164 to tie for 82nd.

St. Edward’s University claimed the team title with a 587 total two shots better than NAIA No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Christian in second place. Host Central Oklahoma rounded out the top three tournament totals with a 595.

Central Oklahoma’s Baer Aneshansley and Colorado State-Pueblo’s Scott Wyers claimed medalist honors as the two both carded 141 on the rain shortened event. Wyers carded a tournament low, four-under-par 68 in the opening round.

Rogers State travels east April 9-10 for the Natural State Invitational hosted by Henderson State in Heber Spring, Ark.
