Hillcat Prepared for SAC Men's Golf Championship

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The 2012 Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Tournament Championship will tee off at 8:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2012 from The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas and Rogers State will look to make a push after finishing fifth in the event last season.
The Hillcats are led by junior Tanner Owens as the Fort Gibson, Okla. native has posted an average score of 74.58 averaging a score just 3.42 above par. Owens has finished in the 60s once and better than par a team best six times as he claimed medalist honors at the Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at South Padre Island Golf Club in February.
Senior Bo Sarratt is averaging a 75.19 card in nine tournaments this season, while averaging four strokes versus par in his 21 total rounds. The Gentry, Ark. native’s best finish came at the MACU Tournament during the fall season as he placed tied for fifth out of 38 competitors.
Sarratt will tee it up at 8:40 a.m. on the 10th hole of the 7,207 yard, par 72 championship Tom Doak designed course featuring 96 bunkers. Owens will round out the Hillcat five as the three-year team member will begin at 9 a.m. from the 10th hole. For a complete view of tee times please visit here.
The Hillcats rank No. 21 based off the Golfstat Head-to-Head rankings. In the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll RSU sits just outside of the top 25 as the Cats received 31 votes in the most recent poll released April 13.
Six SAC schools are in the NAIA rankings led by No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Christian and No. 2 Oklahoma City. Wayland Baptist sits at No. 10 in the rankings two ahead of No. 12 Southern Nazarene. No. 19 Lubbock Christian and No. 24 Oklahoma Baptist are the final two teams ranked from the SAC in the NAIA polls.
No. 2-ranked Oklahoma City will look to defend its team title after the Stars claimed the crown last year at Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa, Okla. Oklahoma Christian’s Preston Wilkin’s captured individual medalist honors and returns to defend his finish from last season.
