CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State Cross Country head coach Chris McCormick announced the 2012 schedule Wednesday as the program gets set for its third year of existence.
In 2010 the men’s program sent one runner to the NAIA National Championship race in Vancouver, Wash. The women’s program matched the feat and one upped it in 2011 as Brenda Felipe captured the Sooner Athletic Conference individual title and earned a berth to the NAIA National Championship.
In the programs’ third year McCormick and the Hillcats will tackle a six race regular season schedule. The season begins Saturday, September 8 at the UCO Land Run in Edmond, Okla. hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.
Three of the six Hillcat races take place in the Sooner State with RSU traveling to Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas for the remainder of the schedule.
The season opener at UCO will begin a slate of three consecutive races at NCAA schools as RSU will travel to Missouri Southern and Oklahoma State the following two weeks. The Cats travel to Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday, October 13 for the Chile Pepper Cross Country Invitational to round out the NCAA school sponsored races.
Postseason competition will begin November 3 at the SAC Championship allowing Hillcat runners to qualify for the NAIA National Championship set for November 17.
