Men's Golf Finishes Eighth at U.C. Ferguson Classic

Monday’s opening two rounds came to a close with the Hillcats
sitting ninth in the 13 team field at Lincoln Park Golf Course. Despite RSU
golfers shooting no worse than five-over par the Cats sat one stroke behind
Oklahoma Baptist entering the second day.
RSU shot a three-day best 278 to move up one spot with an
853 total while the Bison drifted with a 284 in the final round down to 10th
place. Bellevue University took the team title with a team score of 819.
Tuesday the Cats saw three golfers post scores under par
including senior Preston Bartley’s 65 on the par 71 course. Freshman Aaron
Davis’ 69 was the third score in the 60’s at the 6,576 yard track. Senior
Tanner Owens was the most consistent of the Hillcats as the Fort Gibson, Okla.
native shot 68-72-70 for a 210 total tying for 15th.
Davis was impressive in his first collegiate tournament as
the Jenks, Okla. native shot 75-70 on day one to tie in 26th place
finish with a 214 tournament card. Bartley rebounded nicely from rounds of
74-76 on Monday to finish tied in 31st one stroke behind Davis.
Garrett Fey carded rounds of 74-71-74 for a 219 and tied for
47th while teammate Thomas Reilly finished tied for 60th
posting his best score in round two with a 72.
Oklahoma Christian’s Sam Johnston claimed medalist honors
with a three day total of 197 with rounds of 63-69-65 helping the Eagles to
second place. Host OCU finished third six strokes behind OC.
Rogers State returns to the course competitively October 1-2
in Texoma, Okla. at Chickasaw Point Golf Club for the Texoma Championship
hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State University. For more information on
