Hillcats Place Ninth at NSU Women's Golf Classic

The Rogers State women’s golf team didn’t travel far to begin the 2012-13
campaign traveling to Cherry Springs Golf Club for the NSU Women’s Golf Classic
hosted by Northeastern State University Monday and Tuesday.
The Hillcats finished the first day in ninth place and at
the conclusion of the tournament held the same spot on the tournament board as
RSU carded 336-334 for a team total of 670 out of the 13 team field.
Whitney Hocutt led the way for the Cats as the Claremore,
Okla. native posted 78-81-159 to finish tied for 15th. Sophomore
Cecilie Nordahl wasn’t far behind tied for 24th after rounds of
79-82 and a tournament card of 161 on the par 72 course.
The 5,847 yard Burel Berry course proved more difficult for
the remainder of the Hillcats, all freshmen. Raquel Trevino’s 173 featured
rounds of 89-84 to finish tied for 52nd. Finishing tied for 57th
was Chelsea Burney with a 177 total while Kelsey Stuever finished tied for 60th
shooting 180 for a two-round total.
RSU finished six strokes ahead of NCAA Division II
Nebraska-Kearney while the Cats finished 12 strokes behind eighth place East
Central (Okla.) University as the Tigers shot 658.
The host RiverHawks claimed the team trophy finishing 16
strokes better than second place Arkansas Tech. Brittany Marquez of Harding
University won medalist honors with a one-under par 143 four strokes better
than NSU’s McCandren Lewis.
Rogers State will hit the road again for competition this
time traveling to Oklahoma City for the OCU Stars Fall Classic at Lincoln Park
