Hillcat Women Ninth, Men 13th at Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla.-The Rogers State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed on the hill laden course at the at the 76th Annual Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday morning as the women placed ninth while the men posted a 13th place finish.
The Hillcat women totaled 306 points in the 5K race to take ninth, finishing third among NAIA schools. Freshman Haley Taylor paced RSU with a 42nd place finish among the 216 runners. The Collinsville, Okla. native ran the course in 20:14. Sophomore Brenda Felipe followed with a time of 20:42 in 59th place while Maria Apolinar finished a step behind her in 60th place with a time of 20:43. Freshman Christi Dougherty and Coree Lenhart rounded out the top five for the Cats. Dougherty finished with a time of 21:05 and placed 67th while Lenhart completed the course in 21:18 good for 78th place.
Iowa Central Community College registered the top spot in the women’s college division as they tallied 48 points. Hannah Helker from Oklahoma Baptist University claimed the individual title, finishing the race with a time of 18:15.
The Hillcat men tallied a 13th place finish in the 8K race that featured 22 teams and 192 runners. The Cats finished fifth among NAIA teams in the race with 192 points. Brandon Payne led the way for the RSU men with a 43rd place finish in 27:44. Garrett Dyson finished second for the Cats in 67th with a time of 28:32. Chandler Smith followed with a 69th place finish in 28:38. Oscar Reyes and Marcus Trevino completed the top five. Reyes earned 73rd with a time of 28: 43 and Trevino ran the course with a time of 28:50 in 79th.
Southwestern (Kan.) earned the team title in the men’s college division with 60 points and team member Frank Adelman earned the individual title with a time of 25:46.
The Hillcat cross country teams will return to action next Saturday, October 6 as the Cats travel to Shawnee, Okla. for the Bison Invitational.
