Ninth Place Finish at Texoma Championship for Hillcat Men's Golf

KINGSTON, Okla. – Despite improving by a stroke each round the Rogers State men’s golf team wasn’t able to break into the top five Tuesday at the Texoma Championship hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Held at the 7,085 yard, par-72 Chickasaw Point Golf Resort championship course the Hillcats posted a team score of 311-310-309 for a tournament total of 930.

Monday’s opening round 311 by the Cats put RSU in 11th out of 14 team field. The day improved as a 310 in round two moved coach Lynn Blevins’ squad to eighth place with a two round total of 621 just six strokes behind Newman University.

Senior Tanner Owens set the pace for RSU as he shot 74-75-77 to tie for 17th with a 226 total. Aaron Davis continued his impressive early display as the Jenks High School product finished 21st penciling in a team best 72 bookended by rounds of 77 and 79 for a tournament total of 228.

Garrett Fey totaled 236 finishing tied for 42nd with rounds of 79-80-77 while senior Preston Bartley posted first day rounds of 81-83 but improved with a 78 in the final day to tie for 55th. Freshman Thomas Reilly rounded out the Hillcat five with a tournament total of 248 tied for 64th with rounds of 83-88-77.

Oklahoma Christian captured the team title with a tournament total of 872 finishing 16 strokes ahead of second-place Southwestern Oklahoma State. SWOSU’s Taylor Howie won medalist honors after shooting 74-70-70—214 finishing two strokes ahead of OC’s Jared Consoli.

Rogers State will return to competition October 29-30 at the Northwood Fall Shootout at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Texas.
